The head of the Defense and National Security Committee in the Libyan House of Representatives, Talal Al-Mayhoub, confirmed that American movements in the west of the country may disrupt the upcoming political path.
Al-Mayhoub explained, “The Libyan street wants to move toward elections, which are being obstructed by armed formations.”
Al-Mayhoub pointed out that “American support for armed groups in western Libya, and their efforts to form what is known as the Libyan European Legion, hinders any stability in the country.”
He added: “What Washington is seeking will push the armed groups in western Libya to reject any path regarding elections or consensus on unifying the military establishment, which will hinder consensus between the Libyan parties.”
The European Legion represents the presence of Western forces in Libya under the pretext of protecting oil fields and interests there, and fighting terrorism, which raises fears of continued chaos and instability in the country.
Previously, Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, had confirmed that the solution in Libya would only be through holding presidential and parliamentary elections, while emphasizing the necessity of forming a unified government to manage the elections and end the internal divisions that hinder the country’s stability.
