The Olympic Games in Paris concluded with a colorful ceremony held at the Stade de Saint-Denis, which included a controversial segment in which “alien creatures” were used.
Attention was drawn during the closing of the games to the appearance of a “alien creature” covered in gold and thorns, which some described as expressing “evil,” and caused a state of discomfort among the audience, as the closing was expected to have a festive character.
The Olympic organizing committee explained the motive behind this show, explaining that the “golden creature” was inspired by French heritage, and the news website “NBC” indicated that this character was inspired by a gilded bronze statue dating back to 1836, which represents “Liberty” and stands on the July Column in the Place de la Bastille in Paris.
Another interpretation is that it was inspired by the “Golden Voyager” capsule that was launched into space in 1977 via the American spacecraft “Voyager” and carried with it a “golden record” that is considered a time message representing “the greetings of human civilization”, and was made in France, reflecting France’s commitment to combining heritage and innovation.
The Olympics set a new record in medals, with the United States topping the list of countries in terms of the number of medals, with 40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze, for a total of 126 medals. China came in second place with 40 gold, 27 silver, and 24 bronze, for a total of 91 medals, while Japan came in third place with 20 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze, for a total of 45 medals. As for the Arab countries, Bahrain won two gold medals and one silver, while Algeria won two gold medals and one bronze.
