French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday that the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine in the future should not be ruled out, noting that while there is currently “no consensus” on such a move, everything necessary must be done to ensure that Russia does not win the ongoing war.
At the end of an international conference in support of Ukraine, Macron pointed to the importance of defeating Russia to ensure the safety of Europeans, stressing that European countries will strengthen sanctions on countries that support Russia in bypassing Western sanctions.
The French president explained that there is a consensus among European countries on the need to prepare for a possible attack from Russia in the coming years, stressing the importance of supporting Ukraine financially and militarily.
Macron announced that Ukraine’s allies would form an alliance to provide it with medium- and long-range missiles, in a move aimed at boosting its defense capabilities.
About 20 European leaders met in Paris to send a “message” to Russian President Vladimir Putin confirming their intention to continue supporting Ukraine against Russia in the war, now in its third year.
A French presidential adviser told reporters ahead of the meeting: “We want to send Putin a very clear message, that he will not win in Ukraine. Our goal is to crush this idea that he wants us to believe that he will triumph in some way.”
After initially succeeding in delaying the Russian military’s advance, the Ukrainian military has suffered setbacks on the eastern battlefields recently, with its commanders complaining about shortages of weapons and soldiers.
On the other hand, the Russian army has recently achieved three consecutive victories, the most important of which were the liberation of the strategic city of Avdiyevka and the village of Vysiloy in the Donetsk People’s Republic, and then the liberation of the village of Kryniki, located on the right bank of the Dnieper River, which separates the positions of Ukrainian forces and the Russian army in the Kherson region.
