The European Union refuses to join the alliance in the Red Sea

The European Union’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Josep Borrell, said the bloc would not participate in the US-led alliance in the Red Sea against the Houthis.

The EU official noted that the EU is preparing for a mission in the Red Sea, but its sole purpose is to protect shipping.

He added that everything possible should be done to ensure freedom of navigation, but at the same time avoid escalation.
