Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have begun a campaign of attacks on 53 villages in Gezira state, killing dozens of civilians and exacerbating the humanitarian situation, sources said.

According to field reports and statements, these forces have barbarically killed civilians in attacks targeting the area, as movements towards the city of Al-Manaqil escalated.

The resistance committees in the cities of Wad Madani and Hashasisa confirmed that communications and internet networks continued to be cut off for more than 3 weeks, as the Rapid Support Militia committed serious violations, including terrorism and looting.

The committees noted that 53 villages were subjected to violations during 3 weeks of rapid support, and there was no immediate comment by the concerned forces.

In its report released on Tuesday, Sudan’s Central Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that the RSF’s attacks on 39 villages killed 46 civilians and wounded 90 others.

The RSF took control of several cities in Gezira state last December, and their movements extended south towards Sennar state.

Despite controlling several areas, it still faces difficulties in entering the city of al-Manaqil, indicating rising tensions in the region.

The resistance committees in Wad Madani confirmed the monitoring of heavy movements and large gatherings of the Rapid Support Forces towards the city of Manaqil.

It warned that forces were planning an attack on the city, with more massacres, abuses and war crimes against civilians expected.

Since the beginning of April 2023, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have engaged in a war that has resulted in a massive humanitarian tragedy, with the death toll reaching more than 13,000 people and the number of displaced people and refugees approaching 8 million.

Coinciding with this displacement, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) confirmed that some 8.1 million people have been internally and externally displaced since the outbreak of fighting, reflecting the worsening humanitarian situation in Sudan.
