The Egyptian Olympic Committee announced the suspension of player Shahad Saeed, who qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, for a year after she knocked down her teammate Janna Mohamed El-Sayed during the Republic Championship for Women under 23 years of age.
The Egyptian Olympic Committee issued details of the incident that occurred during the individual race held in the city of Suez on April 27, 2024, and indicated that Saeed’s punishment will continue until April 26, 2025.
Reports issued by the Egyptian Cycling Federation and the Committee of Bodies and Clubs showed that Saeed’s actions violated recognized sports rules and ethics.
After that, the Egyptian Cycling Federation held an emergency session on April 29, 2024, where the committee decided to exclude the player from the tournament, delete her results, and impose a fine of 100 Swiss francs.
He described the decision as the most severe in the list of penalties, as it prevents Saeed from filing a grievance or appeal against the ruling, stressing its finality.
Despite qualifying for the Olympics, Saeed chose to retire, announcing her decision yesterday evening, Saturday, in the wake of a sharp criticism campaign against her on social media platforms, where she acknowledged her mistake but denied any deliberate intention to harm her colleague.
