The Egyptian Interior Ministry denied the authenticity of a video circulated on social media platforms showing a child telling the story of his “return from death” after being held underground.
The video, titled “The Returning Child Youssef Recounts the Details of His Underground Detention,” sparked a wave of wide interaction, prompting the Egyptian Interior Ministry to issue an explanatory statement.
The video shows a man and his son claiming that unknown persons assaulted and detained the child while they were trying to excavate antiquities in the Shubra al-Kheima area of Qalyubia governorate.
According to the statement of the Ministry of Interior, the investigations showed that the story of the video is fake, and that the real incident was a quarrel that broke out on March 24, 2024, due to disputes between neighbors and relatives, in which the aforementioned child was involved to support one of the parties.
The altercation resulted in the child suffering bruises and sporadic wounds, and the parties involved were caught and the necessary legal measures were taken.
The child’s father tried to obtain financial compensation from the other party, and when he failed, he filmed the aforementioned video in collusion with his son, claiming that the injuries still exist despite the child’s recovery, with the aim of defaming the other party, and the father and son were arrested, and legal action was taken against them.
