The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of a person who raised a banner during the funeral of player Ahmed Refaat, accusing a number of athletes of causing the player’s death without evidence.
This came in a statement by the Ministry on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter), where it confirmed that legal measures were being taken against the aforementioned person.
The Egyptian Modern Future Club reported the death of its player, Ahmed Refaat, following a sharp deterioration in his health after suffering a health illness last March.
Refaat collapsed unconscious during a match against Al-Ittihad of Alexandria, and the club later revealed that the player had suffered a cardiac arrest.
Refaat revealed in a television interview before his death that he was subjected to pressure from Egyptian football officials, without revealing the details.
On the other hand, Modern Sport Club confirmed that the player was not subjected to any pressure and that he received full care from the club management.
The Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhi, decided to assign the Ministry’s Supreme Legal Committee to investigate the circumstances of Refaat’s death and examine documents related to his travel outside the country, after rumors spread of administrative and legal violations.
He ordered the formation of a committee to examine documents in the Modern Sport Club, the Egyptian Football Association, and the Egyptian Olympic Committee.
It is noteworthy that Ahmed Refaat played in the attacking line, and participated in 211 matches with various clubs, scoring 46 goals and making 40 assists. He represented the Egyptian national team in 7 international matches, during which he scored two goals and made one goal.
