Executive Director of the Egyptian Football Association, Walid Al-Attar, commented on the imprisonment of Al-Ahly star Hussein El-Shahat, in the case brought against him by Pyramids defender, Moroccan Mohamed El-Shaibi.
On Thursday, the Nasr City Misdemeanor Court issued a ruling to imprison Hussein Al-Shahat for one year, suspended for three years, in addition to fining him 100,000 Egyptian pounds, due to his assault on Al-Shaibi during one of their teams’ matches in the Egyptian League last year.
In press statements, Walid Al-Attar said: “I learned about the imprisonment of Hussein Al-Shahat from the media, and we have not received anything official yet,” explaining that he will review the text of the ruling before issuing any expected decision from the Football Association in accordance with the regulations and laws in force.
The details of the incident go back to July 2023, when an argument broke out between Al-Shahat and Al-Sheibi following their teams’ match in the Egyptian Premier League, which ended with Pyramids defeating Al-Ahly by three unanswered goals.
After the match, Al-Shahat slapped the Moroccan player in the face, which prompted Al-Chibi to file a lawsuit against him. The Public Prosecution referred Al-Shahat to the Nasr City Misdemeanor Court, which issued the aforementioned ruling.
