The Moroccan media community became concerned after the disappearance of well-known Moroccan YouTuber Adam Tawfik, known as “New Battuta,” in Myanmar.
Sources reported that the last contact with Tawfik was on May 23, when he was in Vietnam, during which he expressed his intention to visit the “Golden Triangle” in Myanmar, the site of many camps where Moroccans are detained.
In a statement by Tawfiq’s father, he indicated his deep concern after losing contact with his son for more than 11 days, expressing that Tawfiq was not accustomed to this type of interruption during his foreign trips.
For his part, Amjad Rami, who was with Adam Tawfiq before his disappearance, confirmed Tawfiq’s desire to visit the “Golden Triangle” area, warning of the danger of this area and the withdrawal of passports to enter it.
It is noteworthy that the “Hespress” website reported that the number of Moroccans detained in Myanmar ranges between 150 and 200 people, where they are subjected to harsh conditions and suffering, as they are asked for huge sums of money as ransom for their release.
Following the submission of a report to the King’s Attorney General at the Casablanca Court of Appeal, a judicial investigation was opened into the incident, and the National Judicial Police Brigade was assigned to investigate the circumstances of the disappearance of Tawfiq and the other citizens.
