One bodyguard accompanying Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani was killed and another injured in a traffic accident involving the presidential motorcade while returning from the border crossing between Mauritania and Algeria.
The independent Mauritanian News News Agency reported that the incident occurred while the delegation was returning from the border crossing leading to the Algerian city of Tindouf.
“The body of the deceased guard, as well as the injured guard, was transferred to a hospital in the city of Tindouf, waiting for a plane to be sent to transport the body of the guard and the injured to Nouakchott later,” the agency said.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune oversaw on Thursday in Tindouf, along with his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, the inauguration of a number of joint projects between Algeria and Mauritania, most notably the opening of a border crossing between the two countries and the launch of the Tindouf-Zouerat road.
