Five members of an Indian family died in an accident in the village of Fakadi in Nuasa Thaluka, India, where their cat fell into an abandoned well and each tried to descend successively to rescue it, leading to the death of all of them.
The incident occurred when the first person from the Kali family tried to save the cat but did not return, so the others followed one by one.
The five men who died inside the well were between 65 and 28 years old, and toxic gases from animal waste inside the well were likely a cause of death.
A sixth person tried to help but survived thanks to a rope tied around his waist and was rescued and taken to hospital.
Officials said two large suction pumps were used by the municipality to extract the victims, while police launched an investigation into the incident.
