Former American soccer star O.J. Simpson, one of the most famous controversial athletes of all time, has died at the age of 76.

Born in 1947, Simpson shone in American football in the seventies, where he was known for his exceptional skills and ability to score crucial goals.

However, Simpson’s life has been marred by many controversial events, most notably the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and boyfriend Ron Goldman in 1994, which was widely popular in the media and became known as the “trial of the century.”

In 1995, he was acquitted, but the case remained one of the most controversial and talked about in American history as it highlighted race, celebrities, and the justice system.

In 2007, he was arrested and charged with armed robbery and theft of sports memorabilia in Las Vegas, and in 2008, Simpson was convicted to 33 years in prison, but was granted parole in 2017, and from then until his death he remained relatively out of sight.
