Informed Libyan sources confirmed that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was invited to participate in the Brazzaville summit in Congo, and that he is expected to accept the invitation along with the rest of the Libyan parties.
The same sources said that the participation will give Saif al-Islam the opportunity to leave his country for the first time since the overthrow of the regime of his father, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, and will have important meetings with participants in the summit, whether Libyan or African officials.
Saif al-Islam is expected to be accompanied by his political team on a trip extending from southern Libya to Chad and from there to Congo under the special auspices of the African Union, which is overseeing the organization of the summit with the participation of member states of the African High-Level Committee on Libya, neighboring countries, and key Libyan parties.
Congolese delegations conveyed invitations to participate in the summit to Presidential Council President Mohamed Menfi, Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dabaiba, Speaker of the House of Representatives Aguila Saleh and President of the State Council Mohamed Tekala.
