Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commander of the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces, announced on Wednesday that his forces are ready to participate in the peace talks that will begin in Switzerland on August 14, with American mediation.

These talks aim to achieve a “comprehensive ceasefire in the country” and open the way to a peaceful, negotiated political solution.

Dagalo reaffirmed his firm position that aims to “save lives and stop the fighting” while seeking to return the country to civilian rule and the path of democratic transformation.

On the other hand, the Vice President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Malik Agar, expressed his denunciation of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s invitation to return to the “Jeddah Platform” to negotiate with the Rapid Support Forces.

Aqar said at a community reconciliation conference in the Red Sea State: “We will not go to Jeddah, and whoever wants should kill us in our country and carry our remains to Jeddah,” stressing that the armed forces are the only ones capable of achieving peace and stability in the country.

Agar also pointed out that “the current war has Sudanese seeds, was planted on American soil, presented in the European Union, and was directed by workers from the UAE,” and stressed the importance of focusing on stopping the war and achieving stability before moving to the national dialogue.

It should be noted that the armed conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces began on April 15, 2023, resulting in the killing of thousands of civilians, the destruction of infrastructure, and the displacement of about 7.5 million people.

To date, Arab, African and international mediation efforts have not succeeded in achieving a permanent ceasefire.
