Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hemedti) revealed the insistence of Sudanese army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to hold a direct meeting with him without the presence of mediators.

Hemedti recently reserved to meet Burhan without witnesses after African Union mediators proposed a face-to-face meeting between Hemedti and Burhan aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement and ending Sudan’s political crisis.

Hemedti agreed with the general principle of the summit but told African presidents that he required IGAD heads of state to attend. Accordingly, the organization canceled the meeting, which was scheduled in Djibouti on December 28

“It was Burhan who asked to meet me, but he must do so unilaterally,” he said.

He stressed the importance of stopping the fighting as an essential step before ending the war. “I can’t stop the war alone. “The cessation of war has measures and we made proposals in Jeddah, and 90 percent of the discussions there were agreed.”

“The first thing that can be done to bring peace is a ceasefire.”
