The head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said that negotiations to stop the war should be inside the country, stressing that any initiative from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in East Africa (IGAD) does not concern the Sudanese people.
In a speech to officers and soldiers of the 11th Infantry Division of the Sudanese army in the city of Khashm al-Korba in the eastern state of Kassala (Kassala), Burhan called on politicians to search for solutions to the country’s crises from within, saying that it is necessary to sit down with all spectrums of the Sudanese people to reach satisfactory solutions for all.
He added that he will not accept any negotiation that does not satisfy the Sudanese people and is not based on strong and solid foundations that preserve the dignity of the people, stressing the need for the Rapid Support Forces to leave, without mentioning them by name, from civilian institutions and civilian homes.
Burhan, who also commands the Sudanese army, said he would not travel to meet anyone, referring to the recent meeting in Addis Ababa between former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok (head of the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces) and RSF commander Mohamed Mohamedan Hemedti in Addis Ababa.
