The President of Libya’s National Elections Commission, Imad Al-Sayeh, met with the British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden, to discuss the Commission’s readiness for the upcoming elections.

According to a statement issued by the Commission, the meeting dealt with ways to support the electoral process in Libya, where the British Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the Commission to achieve the success of the upcoming elections, especially the municipal council elections.

Ambassador Longden affirmed his Government’s readiness to provide technical and advisory support to UNHCR, with a view to enhancing its readiness and creating a suitable environment for the implementation of the expected entitlements.

These talks come in the context of the international community’s efforts to support the democratic process in Libya, where the holding of Libyan elections depends on the consensus of local parties, in addition to encouraging UNSMIL to form a unified government to facilitate this process.
