Brazilian President Lula da Silva will conduct an African tour that includes Egypt and Ethiopia next week to strengthen political and economic relations between his country and the continent, Brasilia reported.

Brazil’s Foreign Ministry said da Silva will arrive next Wednesday (February 14) in Cairo, where he is scheduled to be received the next day by his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

Graziano da Silva is also scheduled to meet in Addis Ababa with high-level Ethiopian officials on Friday (February 16th), before participating on February 17-18 in the summit of heads of 55 African countries, as a guest at the annual assembly of the African Union.

Carlos Sobral Duarte, head of Africa and the Middle East at the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, told reporters: “The Brazilian government is keen to go further towards Africa, which has been little economically explored, despite its many links with Brazil.”
