The bodies of 26 people, including 12 Syrians and 14 Algerians, were found in the Algerian desert after they got lost while trying to reach Libya with the aim of immigrating to Europe, according to the” Relief Search and Rescue” Association.
The association announced on Monday that it had found 12 Syrian bodies, including two children, in the Balqabour area in the desert, and had transferred them to the mortuary preservation department at Borj Omar Idris Hospital in Illizi Province.
A missing “Toyota” car was also found, along with three bodies belonging to the driver and his companions, in addition to another Syrian person, after they had been missing in the desert since last Tuesday.
The association stated that all the victims died of thirst after their traces were lost in the harsh weather conditions there, calling on the families of the victims to contact them to receive the bodies from Burj Omar Idris Hospital.
Pictures published by rescue teams show bodies piled up in the Algerian desert, as this incident is considered the latest in a series of disasters to which migrants seeking to reach Europe are exposed via illegal and dangerous routes.
