Tunisian security forces arrested Italian Angelo Salvatore Stracuzzi, accused of working as an accountant for the mafia, in the city of Hammamet, northeast of Tunisia.
Stracuzzi, who rented a house in the city three months ago, was arrested with his girlfriend in an operation carried out in cooperation with Italian security authorities and the Interpol office.
According to Tunisian radio “ifm”, the operation came after extensive investigations and coordination between Tunisian and Italian authorities.
Stracuzzi is known for his close ties to the Italian mafia, which seeks to expand its influence within the Italian economy through him.
Stracuzzi has faced charges of fraud and extortion in the past and was under strict security surveillance. It is believed that he was close to the “Agrigento Cosa Nostra” organization.
Italian news websites described his arrest as a major achievement for the security services in both countries and stressed that the arrest will open the door to uncovering mafia networks that are trying to harm the Italian economy and threaten public security.
The “Agrigento Cosa Nostra” is one of the main factions of the Sicilian Mafia, particularly active in the province of Agrigento. It is part of the larger Cosa Nostra (Sicilian Mafia) structure and operates under the leadership of the Capo Mandameto (area boss) who represents the gang bosses in the Coppola (Mafia Supreme Council).
