The Arab Parliament on Tuesday welcomed the results of the meeting hosted by the League of Arab States in Cairo between the Libyan parties, within the framework of supporting efforts for a political settlement in Libya.
The meeting was attended by the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and the President of the High Council of State, Mohamed Tekala, under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
In a statement published on its Facebook page, the Arab Parliament affirmed its full support for Arab initiatives aimed at achieving security and stability in Libya and achieving the aspirations of its people and the supreme national interest.
The parliament expressed its rejection of external interference and reaffirmed its support for Libya’s unity and territorial integrity.
At the end of the meeting, Libyan leaders agreed on the need to form a unified government to oversee presidential and parliamentary elections, unify sovereign positions, and agree to urgently convene a second round to implement this agreement.
