The Arab League is preparing to host a meeting in the upcoming days of Libyan leaders aimed at completing the tripartite consultations that took place in recent weeks in Cairo.
The meeting includes President of the Presidential Council Mohamed al-Menfi, Speaker of the House of Representatives Aguila Saleh, and President of the High Council of State Mohamed Tekala.
The meeting will discuss ways to agree on a roadmap to be signed between the three parties, especially in light of the current vacuum in the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) following the resignation of Abdullah Bathili from his post.
A diplomatic source from the Arab League confirmed that it seeks to counter external interference in Libyan affairs by encouraging Libyans to develop a consensus national vision that pushes for the holding of presidential and legislative elections as soon as possible.
Political experts believe that the Arab League’s initiative to bring Libyan leaders closer together is poised to succeed, as it does not impose any opinions or solutions besides respecting the sovereignty and unity of the Libyan state.
It is noteworthy that the Arab League hosted on March 10 a meeting that included the same parties to the next meeting, with the aim of bringing views closer and facilitating Libyan dialogue and stated in a statement that it seeks to get Libya out of its protracted crisis and its burdens and consequences on the Libyan people.
