In a statement, the African Union congratulated Baciro Diomayo Faye after his victory in the presidential elections in Senegal, praising the acceptance of the results by all.
In the statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat wished President Faye success in his “noble and great” mission.
Fei won more than 54 percent of the vote on Sunday, becoming the West African country’s fifth president.
Faye is Senegal’s youngest president, at 44, and has not held any office through national election.
Faye was released from prison 10 days before the election along with the head of his Bastif party, Ousmane Sonko, after they were covered by the amnesty law.
