The case of the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr, which dates back to 1978, witnessed a development with the heated statements between former Lebanese Minister Wiam Wahhab and Hannibal Gaddafi, the son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Wahhab sparked controversy with his recent statements in which he revealed that he had mediated for Hannibal with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, but he quickly confirmed that Gaddafi Jr. “does not deserve mediation.”
Wahhab explained that this matter led to a dispute between him and Berri, and that Hannibal stated that al-Sadr “was not present” a few days after his disappearance.
For his part, Hannibal Gaddafi, who is being held in Lebanon, called on the Lebanese judiciary to hear Wahhab’s testimony regarding the case, according to what a source close to Gaddafi told Sputnik. He also demanded that the judiciary be informed of all information that would contribute to revealing the fate of the missing imam.
The source also spoke about a previous television interview by Wahhab, in which he claimed to have information about al-Sadr’s fate that he had received from Muammar Gaddafi.
According to the source, Hannibal expressed his surprise at the lack of seriousness in dealing with Wahhab’s statements by various parties, especially the followers and family of Imam al-Sadr and the Amal Movement, noting that he had been detained for ten years “only on suspicion of having information about the case.”
The source confirmed Hannibal’s innocence, quoting him as saying that he was three years old when the incident occurred, and that he “does not have any information about al-Sadr’s fate.”
Hannibal Gaddafi has been facing long-term detention in Lebanon since 2015, and the Lebanese authorities accuse him of “withholding information” about this case and believe that he may have important evidence about Imam al-Sadr’s fate. The Lebanese authorities have not provided conclusive evidence directly linking Hannibal Gaddafi to the disappearance of Imam al-Sadr.
