Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said in an interview with local media that the decision to hold “advance” presidential elections on September 7, three months ahead of schedule, was for “purely technical reasons,” refusing to reveal whether he would run for a second term.
The Algerian president explained that the upcoming elections come at an appropriate time, as the date set for September will be suitable for Algerians returning from vacation to participate in the electoral process.
Regarding speculation about his candidacy for a second term, Tebboune refused to talk about this, stressing that it is still too early for that, noting that he is still in the stage of hard work and communication with the people.
Tebboune said the “well-known trio” seeks to destabilize Algeria by weaving fictional scenarios about the existence of differences and problems within the government.
Earlier this month, the Algerian presidency announced the decision to hold early presidential elections in September.
