A new Israeli poll revealed that 80% of Israelis abroad do not intend to return, and that the majority of respondents revealed their feeling of fear after October 7, 2023.

The Israeli “War Room” website reported that the “Committee for Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs” in Israel held a session to discuss the situation of Israelis abroad, after the events of October 7, 2023.

The debate comes against the backdrop of an emergency survey conducted by the Zionist Organization in cooperation with the Hebrew University on Israelis’ experiences abroad after October 7, through a survey sent online to Israelis around the world.

The poll showed that 80 percent of respondents do not intend to return to Israel, although they feel insecure in their places as well.

Seventy percent of Israelis reported that they changed their public behavior after October 7, hiding Jewish symbols, speaking less Hebrew, and avoiding going out for entertainment and meeting in city centers.

Forty-four percent of respondents said they were considering a way to “strengthen their self-defense,” such as buying guns, carrying tear gas and pepper gas, installing surveillance cameras in their homes, and enrolling in a self-defense course.

The head of the Committee on Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora, MK Oded Forer, said at the session that Israel should take appropriate measures to eliminate anti-Semitism around the world, stressing that unfortunately, there is currently no government program dealing with Israeli communities abroad.
