The head of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council and army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, categorically rejected any negotiations to end the fighting, stressing his commitment to war to achieve gains in conjunction with continuing reports about Iran supplying arms shipments to the Sudanese army.
Al-Burhan stressed that no one will be met abroad to discuss stopping the war, considering that any talks must take place inside Sudan.
In this context, Western media reports have addressed the Iranian supply to the Sudanese army, which explains Burhan’s stubborn stance on the settlement and his reliance on continuing the conflict after its heavy losses.
Referring to Algeria’s role in this context, Burhan rejected any mediation or negotiation after his visit to Algeria, which declared its support for the positions of the Sudanese army.
On the other hand, a number of reports have said that Iranian planes loaded with weapons landed in Sudan, reinforcing news about Iran’s supply to the Sudanese army after Sudan severed diplomatic relations with Iran seven years ago and sided with Saudi Arabia in a territorial dispute between the two powers, but the country’s ruling military council is now in dire need of military aid after a series of major military defeats.
As the conflict continues, Sudan’s military faces significant challenges not only in terms of military equipment, but also in shortages of medical equipment and precision bombs. In this context, Iranian support comes as an attempt to strengthen the capabilities of the Sudanese military, and although its impact may not be immediate, it may play an important role in the long run.
Regarding the confrontations, the RSF announced the downing of an Iranian-made Mohajer 6 drone in Omdurman, the latest of three drones shot down, as RSF fighters took pictures with a Chinese FN-6 surface-to-air missile launcher celebrating, reflecting the continuing tensions and confrontations in the country.
These developments come in the context of internal divisions and external pressures that threaten the stability of Sudan and complicate efforts to find a peaceful solution to the current crisis.
