Sudanese runner Yassin Abdullah had his mobile phone stolen while he was preparing to compete in the Paris Olympics.
Yassin explained that during a training session on the banks of the Seine River in the French capital, he placed his phone next to his shoes and returned to find it gone.
Yassin, who chose to represent Sudan in the Olympics despite living in the United States, stressed his determination to perform to honor his family and country, expressing his ambition to earn a place among the top twenty competitors in these games.
It is worth noting that a series of thefts have affected several delegations and athletes participating in the Olympics, including the Argentine national football team and the American cycling team, as well as Zico, the Brazilian football legend, who lost personal accessories worth half a million euros before the opening ceremony.
Other incidents occurred as telecommunications networks in France were attacked, and fiber optic cables were vandalized across six regions, leading to interruptions in internet and telephone services.
Paris has also seen a series of attacks on its rail network, including arson attacks that disrupted trains, affecting around a million passengers ahead of the Games’ opening ceremony. In another incident, police arrested a 16-year-old boy after he expressed on social media his desire to carry out terrorist acts during the Games.
