Sudanese government officials refused to hold a direct meeting with former Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok and the Sudanese Civil Democratic Forces Coordination “Taqaddam” during a conference hosted by Egypt to discuss ways to put an end to the Sudanese crisis.
Among the officials are the Vice President of the Sovereignty Council, Malek Agar, the Minister of Finance, Jibril Ibrahim, and the Governor of Darfur, Minni Minawi.
Egypt announced that it would host an international conference to discuss ways to stop the war in Sudan, as Sudanese government representatives refused to hold a direct meeting with prominent politicians from the Civil Democratic Coordination and former Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati said during the opening of the conference “Together to Stop the War in Sudan” that any political solution to the crisis must be based on a Sudanese vision and respect for the country’s sovereignty.
Sudanese officials allied with the army pointed out the importance of the unity of the Sudanese army in maintaining security and defending the state, refusing to meet with Hamdok and the “Taqaddum” coordination and accusing them of rapprochement with the Rapid Support Forces.
A close source explained that the government camp allied with the army attended the conference “as a courtesy to Egypt” without holding a meeting with the political opposition, while the United States and Saudi Arabia continue their efforts to mediate the Sudanese crisis without achieving tangible results.
The war in Sudan, with a population of 48 million, has claimed tens of thousands, displaced millions, and caused one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
