The commander of the Sudanese army and head of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, said that the basis for the solution to the war in Sudan lies in the withdrawal of the Rapid Support Forces from all the cities and villages they occupied.
Al-Burhan made the remarks during his meeting with the delegation of the African Union High-Level Mechanism on Sudan, headed by Mohamed Shinbaz.
Al-Burhan explained to the delegation of the mechanism on the developments of events since October 25, 2021, which witnessed the dissolution of the partnership between the military component and the political forces due to the failure to reach a consensus, stressing that what happened at the time was not a coup, according to a statement issued by the Sudanese Sovereignty Council.
Al-Burhan expressed Sudan’s confidence in the African Union and the solutions it can provide, provided that the Union deals with Sudan as a full member.
In turn, Shinbaz stressed the need to stop the war and achieve stability in Sudan, which represents stability for the entire African continent due to its important and strategic geographical location.
It is noteworthy that the African Union had considered the events of October 25 a coup against the government of Prime Minister, Abdalla Hamdok, appointed after the 2019 Sudanese revolution, because of which Sudan’s membership in the Union was frozen.
