The Rapid Support Forces took control of the city of Sinja, Sennar State, southeastern Sudan, as violent clashes continued with the Sudanese army.
Military sources and eyewitnesses confirmed that the Rapid Support Forces took control of the city and established outposts inside it, while the sounds of bullets were constantly heard.
These clashes broke out in the strategic city of Sinja, which links the states of Sennar and Blue Nile, in the midst of the ongoing conflict in Sudan since mid-April 2023.
These clashes resulted in a large population displacement towards the south towards Blue Nile State, which is considered the only outlet available for the exit of civilians, with tense conditions in the city of Sennar, which is about 60 kilometers from Sinja.
The Rapid Support Forces published a video claiming to have taken control of the army command in Sinja, a city that is an important economic center and surrounded by a number of major agricultural projects.
The region has been witnessing great tension for more than five days, which increased after the Rapid Support Forces took control of the strategic Jebel Muya area, which links three vital states in central and western Sudan.
The Jabal Muya area is located in a mountain range extending within the borders of Sennar State, and it constitutes a meeting point for three national roads towards the White Nile in the west, the Blue Nile in the south, and Gezira State in the north. This area surrounds the Sennar Reservoir, from which the main waterways that contribute to the irrigation of the Gezira project branch off.
The two parties have been seeking for more than four months to achieve victory in this vital region, which includes vast agricultural and production projects.
Observers confirm that controlling it means tightening the noose on a number of major cities and military divisions in Sennar and Blue Nile State, and it also means controlling the triangle that includes the cities of Al-Dawim, Kosti, and Al-Manaqil.
