The neutral Sudanese Revolutionary Front asked US envoy Tom Perello to work to convince both sides of the fighting to hold a 3-day humanitarian truce to remove civilians trapped in El Fasher.
Fierce fighting continued in El Fasher for the fifth consecutive day, with the city’s streets and a number of areas witnessing bloody clashes that led to dozens of deaths.
The dismissed member of the Sovereignty Council and head of the Front, Hedi Idris, said that during a meeting with Birillo in the Ugandan capital Kampala on Tuesday, they confirmed the pledge of the neutral movements to protect humanitarian aid convoys destined for those affected by the war.
Mohamed Ismail Mohamed Kas, political secretary of the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) and the Transitional Council, warned of the alarming deterioration of the humanitarian situation in El Fasher and called for immediate steps to rescue civilians.
As fighting continues, El Fasher residents face a further deterioration in humanitarian conditions, raising fears of severe shortages of food, water, and health services.
The army and allied armed movements accused the RSF of cutting off all supply lines and routes to El Fasher and causing severe shortages of water, food, medicine, and fuel in the city, but the RSF described these accusations as misleading and stressed their keenness to protect civilians.
“Our position on the issue of El Fasher is known, and our forces have chosen since the beginning of the war to avoid any armed clash that affects the provoked by citizens, and we responded to previous understandings in the same direction,” a statement issued by the Rapid Support said.
“Army warplanes carried out a series of documented air strikes, killing and wounding hundreds of innocent people, as well as destroying public and private facilities,” the statement said.
