On Wednesday, the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), issued a decision relieving Youssef Ibrahim Azza Ismail from his duties as his political advisor, effective July 10.

Hemedti ordered the relevant authorities to take the necessary measures to implement the decision, which the forces described as part of routine internal arrangements, according to their statement on “X”.

It is noteworthy that Sudan has been living since April 15, 2023, in the midst of a raging war between the Sudanese army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces led by Hemedti, which led to a severe humanitarian crisis.

The Sudanese war resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands, including up to 15,000 people in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state, according to United Nations experts.

Although the exact death toll is not clear, some estimates indicate that their number reaches 150,000, according to the US special envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello.

The United Nations also recorded the displacement of about 10 million people inside and outside Sudan since the outbreak of the conflict, and the battles led to widespread destruction of the country’s infrastructure, making its population face the risk of famine.
