Today, Saturday, the Halfaya area, north of Khartoum, is witnessing fierce and ongoing battles between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which, according to preliminary information, resulted in losses among both sides of the conflict.
The Sudanese army announced that its forces began Thursday to carry out a military operation against the Rapid Support Forces in the Halfaya area, north of Khartoum Bahri.
The Sudanese army spokesman stated that the operation resulted in human and material losses among the ranks of the Rapid Support Forces, while the army announced the killing of 7 of its forces in addition to the injury of 28 others in the clashes that took place at the Halfaya Bridge.
For its part, the Rapid Support Forces said – in a statement on the X platform – that they shot down an army helicopter and inflicted unprecedented losses on the Halfaya Bridge.
For months, the Rapid Support Forces have controlled the eastern side of the Halfaya Bridge from the Khartoum-Bahri side, while the army is tightening its control over the western side of the bridge linking Bahri and Omdurman.
The bridge is a vital entrance towards a number of military installations and strategic sites, especially the Wadi Sidna military area in Omdurman.
The past few days witnessed clashes between the two parties in other areas of Khartoum, and Sudanese army aircraft launched raids on rapid support sites in some neighborhoods such as Al-Azhari and Soba.
Since May 10, the city of El Fasher has witnessed clashes between the army – which is supported by the forces of the armed movements that signed a peace agreement – and the Rapid Support Forces.
