The head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, survived an assassination attempt targeting him with a “suicide” drone while participating in a graduation ceremony for students at the Military College at the Jebeit Military Institute in the Red Sea State.

Informed sources confirmed that the drone targeted Al-Burhan this morning, Wednesday, but did not cause any serious damage, and Al-Burhan was quickly evacuated to the city of Port Sudan as a precaution.

It is noteworthy that Sudanese media revealed last week another assassination attempt targeting Al-Burhan, which was thwarted by the military security services before it was carried out.

Drones are currently being used extensively recently in Sudan’s battles, as drone strikes reached the city of Ad-Damar, the capital of the River Nile State in northern Sudan, and this changed the course of the war in Sudan. There is controversy about the source of these drones, as some reports indicate an Iranian role, while the United Arab Emirates has strongly denied any accusations of providing the parties to the conflict with this technology.

The Rapid Support Forces also resorted to using drones armed with bombs and some with missiles during their attacks on strategic sites. The Rapid Support Forces obtained modified commercial drones to be able to drop missiles, which enhances their offensive capabilities.
