The Rapid Support Forces destroyed the strategic Halfaya Bridge, which connects Khartoum Bahri and Omdurman, north of the Sudanese capital, leading to the outbreak of new tensions between them and the Sudanese army.
A strong explosion was heard shortly before midnight on Monday, and the accident caused serious damage to the concrete structures of the bridge, which is vital for the movement of supplies in the region.
Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah, spokesman for the Sudanese army, confirmed in a statement to reporters that the Rapid Support Forces destroyed the eastern part of the bridge.
The army spokesman continued, saying: “The militia has a habit of attempting to destroy infrastructure and vital installations to cover up its failure to achieve its malicious goals, believing that this would prevent the armed forces from performing their duty to cleanse the nation of their filth.”
For his part, the spokesman for the Rapid Support accused, as he described it, “the Burhan militia and the Islamic Movement brigades disguised as the army of being behind this hostile act.”
This incident comes after a series of military escalations in Sudan, including the destruction of the Shambat Bridge last year and attempts to destroy other vital installations.
Bridges are a vital component for transporting supplies and troops during internal conflicts, which increases tensions and complicates efforts to stabilize the country.
There are many challenges facing Sudan in its endeavor to break out of the ongoing cycle of violence and conflicts, with increasing pressure on the international community to help find comprehensive and sustainable political solutions.
