South Africa qualified for the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations currently being held in Ivory Coast, after winning 2-1 on penalties against Cape Verde after the original and extra time ended in a goalless draw.

South Africa owe the win and qualification to their goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, who saved 4 of the 5 penalties, after the original and extra time ended goalless.

With this precious victory, South Africa qualified for the semi-finals of the continental tournament for the first time since the 2000 edition, and will face Nigeria, who in turn won the quarter-finals against Angola with a goal for nothing.
