The militant group “al-Shabaab” carried out an attack on Tuesday on the Dar al-Naama area in Somalia’s southern Middle Shabelle region, sparking heavy clashes.
Local media quoted sources as saying that the attack targeted a base belonging to government forces and allied tribes, leading to direct confrontations between the two sides.
Al-Shabaab claimed control of the Dar al-Naama area, while neither the Somali government nor Hirshabelle state made any official comment on the incident.
Somali authorities announced last week that 39 al-Shabaab members had been killed in a military operation in Lower Shabelle region.
The central government began a large-scale offensive against al-Shabaab in the summer of 2022, as the Somali army was able to regain control of large areas in the center of the country.
Last Saturday, Somali forces killed a number of al-Shabaab leaders and members in a military operation in the center of the country, in cooperation with popular committees in an area of the city of Haratiri in Galmudge state, and the operation was carried out based on intelligence information about the movement of al-Shabaab elements in the area.
