Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi affirmed his country’s rejection of the agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland and stressed that no threat to Somalia and its security will be allowed.

Sisi said at a news conference with Somali President Hassan al-Sheikh in Cairo that the attempt to “jump on land to try to control it… No one will agree to that.”

Referring to the agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland, the Somali president said, “We will not allow these territories to be seized by another country, including Ethiopia, without the consent of sovereign Somalia.”

Somalia’s ambassador to Egypt, Elias Sheikh Omar Abubakar, said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s visit to Cairo came “to coordinate at a time when our sovereignty is facing challenges”.
