Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has warned of a “real and serious threat” to the stability of the Middle East as a result of the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
This came during a joint press conference held by Sisi at the presidential Ittihadiya Palace east of Cairo, with Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, who arrived in Egypt, earlier Wednesday, on a surprise visit of unlimited duration.
Sisi said: “We meet today at a very delicate and very dangerous time as a result of the bloody Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, and the continued horrific fall of thousands of innocent civilians.”
Sisi pointed out that the consequences of this war extend to various parts of the region, which makes the regional situation a crisis and threatens the security and stability of the peoples of the region.
Sisi stressed his agreement with the King of Bahrain on “the need to intensify and immediately encourage efforts to stop the escalation, whether in the Palestinian territories or at the regional level, and work to push the parties to adopt rationality and diplomatic solutions and abandon military solutions and perceptions of dominance, influence and hegemony.”
For his part, the King of Bahrain explained that the dialogue with the Egyptian president dealt with a number of priority issues, including the need to implement the ceasefire resolutions in Gaza and the admission of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.
The king explained that he “also discussed the agenda of the 33rd Arab summit, which will be hosted by Bahrain next May.”
Egypt, Qatar, and the United States are leading indirect negotiations between Israel and “Hamas” aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and an exchange of prisoners and detainees between the two sides.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli army has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of dead and wounded, most of them children and women, massive destruction and famine that has killed children and the elderly, according to Palestinian and UN data.
