Egypt and Turkey signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a Turkish industrial logistics zone in the economic zone in Jarjoub.
The memorandum was signed between the Egyptian Multipurpose Terminals Group Company (EGMPT), the commercial arm of the Ministry of Transport in the field of maritime transport and logistics, the Venture Consortium, and the Turkish company “DOGUS”, to lay the foundation stone for the establishment of a Turkish logistics industrial zone in the economic zone in Jarjoub.
This comes within the framework of the Egyptian Ministry of Transport’s plan to exploit the strategic location of Jarjoub Port to implement several projects through the alliance to design, establish, manage, and operate a commercial port, free and logistical zones and link them to the railway network, a multi-purpose cargo terminal, a passenger terminal, a yacht marina, and an industrial zone.
The ministry said that the project’s big objectives include increasing the volume of trade with African countries and maximizing Egypt’s role in the continent, including establishing logistical facilities that accommodate all types of goods and attracting global investments in various sectors.
The memorandum of understanding includes a period of 6 months to conduct studies and start immediate implementation in the project procedures and obtain the necessary approvals, and the project aims to provide more than 20,000 job opportunities and inject more than $ 7 billion direct investments in all its stages.
The starting point of the project is the operation of a multi-purpose terminal and a diversified logistics area once the contract is signed to be signed before the end of this year to start operation in early 2026.
