The Italian energy company “Saipem” announced on Thursday that it had won a contract to provide subsea monitoring and intervention services for the Green Stream gas pipeline linking Libya and Italy.

The company said in a statement that the contract includes management of survey data, basic spare parts, and the provision of engineering services related to the safety of assets and possible repairs in the event that the line is exposed to any damages.

The intervention operations are scheduled to be carried out via a remote repair system capable of operating at depths of up to 2,200 meters.

The “Green Stream” pipeline extends over a distance of 516 kilometers and is the longest in the Mediterranean, The line connects the pumping station in Mellitta on the Libyan coast and the receiving station in Gela on the Italian island of Sicily.

Libyan gas reaches the line from two main fields: the Bahr al-Salam field, located 110 kilometers off the Libyan coast, and the Wafa field, located in the Libyan desert near the border with Algeria.
