Yevgeny Lesnyak, deputy head of the Kharkiv region administration, announced the opening of a criminal case against a French mercenary in the Ukrainian forces, on charges of raping a woman from the village of Globokoye in the region.

Lesnyak explained to the “Novosti” agency that the victim accused two French mercenaries, who were drunk and spoke French, of assaulting her.

The victim said that the mercenaries broke into her house, beat her and then raped her. She confirmed that she was afraid to leave the basement where she took refuge after the incident, until she and her mother were evacuated by the Russian army a week later.

Lesnyak added that one of the attackers, whose identity has been identified, is Barat Maxime Roger Henry, a French citizen born in 1989, who previously fought in Syria and Iraq alongside the Kurdish forces.

The Russian official confirmed that Henry is currently facing a criminal case on charges of “rape” and “mercenarism,” and the penalty could reach life imprisonment.

The Internal Affairs Directorate of the Kharkiv Regional Administration indicated that the security services are currently searching for the second mercenary involved in the crime.
