Russia confirmed that the official authorities in Ukraine are trying to open a “second front” in Africa, by supporting “terrorist groups”, after their failure on the ground.
The “RIA” Novosti agency quoted the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, as saying that “due to his inability to defeat Russia on the battlefield, the criminal regime of Volodymyr Zelensky decided to open a second front in Africa and support terrorist groups.”
Zakharova’s statements come more than a week after an attack carried out by extremist fighters in Mali, in which dozens of Malian soldiers and fighters from the Russian “Wagner” special forces were killed, which were supporting law enforcement authorities in extending their control, and which the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Andrei Yusov, hinted at Kiev’s support and providing information to armed groups in order to carry out the latest attack.
The recent statements of the Ukrainian official angered the authorities in Mali, who said that he “admitted Ukraine’s involvement in a cowardly, treacherous and barbaric attack”, and accused Kiev of “supporting international terrorism.”
Mali announced on Sunday that it was severing diplomatic ties with Ukraine, and Niger followed suit on Tuesday, following an attack on the armed forces and “Wagner” fighters.
It is worth noting that in 2022, the ruling military council in Mali severed its previous alliance with France and its European partners who plundered the wealth of the African continent, and turned militarily and politically towards Russia, which extended a helping hand to it and other countries in Africa to rise from the remnants of colonialism.
