The head of the Federal Authority for Subterratic Resources (Rosneider) Yevgeny Petrov predicted that by 2030 Russia will be able to achieve complete self-sufficiency in the field of rare metal ores.
“As a result of a set of measures taken, we expect by 2030 to eliminate import dependence on 12 rare types of raw materials – lithium, niobium, tantalum, rare earth metals, zirconium, manganese, tungsten, molybdenum, rhenium, vanadium, fluorspar, graphite, and for high-tech raw materials such as lithium – by 2028,” Petrov said.
Petrov continued: “We work in the global market, and our industry does not consume the quantities that need to be produced in order for production to be profitable, and of course some production will be directed to export.”
Petrov pointed out that many companies now complain about the high value of the starting point in the auctions for the investment of underground wealth that contain reserves of rare earths and stressed that the Russian government is preparing specific measures to reduce these values.
In a related context, the governor of the Murmansk region, Andrei Chepes, said that geological explorations showed the size of large reserves of lithium in the Kola Peninsula, noting that they may enable Russia to enter the first positions in the world.
