Russia continues to extend a helping hand to African countries seeking to recover from the effects of European and American colonialism, including Libya, a country whose east is witnessing clear growth and stability, despite being exposed to a natural disaster that has caused the death and displacement of thousands.

In this context, today, Wednesday, a Russian plane arrived in the city of Benghazi carrying a new shipment of humanitarian aid provided to residents of the eastern regions of Libya.

The Russian Embassy in Libya said on Wednesday in an official statement that “an Il-76 plane belonging to the Russian Emergencies Ministry arrived today, Wednesday, July 24, in the city of Benghazi, carrying a new shipment of humanitarian aid to the residents of the eastern regions of Libya.”

The embassy noted in its statement that the shipment included food, medicine, and medical supplies, in addition to necessary equipment for hospitals and health centers in the region.

This shipment comes as part of a series of humanitarian aid provided by Russia to support the affected population in Libya, in light of the economic and health challenges facing the country.

Today, Wednesday, the Chief of Staff of the security units of the General Command, Major General Khaled Khalifa Haftar, received a delegation from the Russian Ministry of Emergencies, at the headquarters of the Chief of Staff in the Rajma area in the city of Benghazi.

The Chief of Staff of the Security Units said on its “Facebook” page that Major General Khaled Haftar expressed during the meeting his appreciation for the prominent role played by the Russian Ministry of Emergencies during the flood disaster that swept the city of Derna and the Green Mountain regions in September 2023, praising their speed of response and sending of devices and diving equipment. Rescue and relief teams.

She added that, at the conclusion of the meeting, the delegation of the Russian Ministry of Emergencies honored Major General Khaled Haftar with the State of Emergency Medal of Honor.

It is worth noting that the floods and torrents that struck eastern Libya last year caused the death and displacement of thousands in an unprecedented humanitarian disaster in Libya.

Russia had sent significant humanitarian aid to the affected areas, and sent rescue teams and equipment to participate in search and rescue efforts.

A rescue team affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Emergencies participated in search and rescue work and relief efforts for those affected. The Russian rescue team included 100 specialists including rescuers, divers, paramedics, psychologists, police dog units, and drone operators.

During ten working days in Derna, the Russian team was able to remove two thousand cubic meters of debris, and recovered 153 bodies from under the rubble, and Russian paramedics helped more than 670 people, including 67 children, according to what the Russian “TASS” agency reported from an official in the Ministry of Emergencies on the 27th.
