Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced on Tuesday his country’s intention to hold a new Palestinian meeting on settling the Middle East conflict in the near future.
Sergei Lavrov, in the 13th Middle East Conference of the Valdai Club, affirmed that Russia aspires to convene an additional Palestinian meeting in the near future, with the support of the Palestinians themselves and their Arab friends.
He noted that attempts at compromise had been going on for a long time, but the United States had prevented them from advancing on the United Nations Security Council.
In his remarks, Lavrov stressed that it was necessary to stop the Palestinian-Israeli conflict from the beginning and referred to previous attempts to adopt a resolution in the Security Council calling for a ceasefire, but this decision was blocked by the United States of America.
Lavrov also stressed that Russia intends to create conditions for a sustainable and reliable settlement, noting the importance of a ceasefire and work towards stabilization in the region.
He added that Russia seeks to coordinate with the countries of the region to support the establishment of a Palestinian state, with ongoing consultations.
Lavrov concluded his speech by stressing the need to unite the leading Palestinian factions to heal the internal rift, while calling for a joint Palestinian meeting in which all factions participate to achieve solidarity and cooperation.
