In an interview with the Russian “TASS” agency, the Russian ambassador to Djibouti and Somalia, Mikhail Golovanov, stated that negotiations between the Djiboutian side and the Russian space corporation “Ros cosmos” had launched successfully.

Golovanov pointed out that the dialogue between the “Ros cosmos” Foundation and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science of the Republic of Djibouti is witnessing remarkable development.

Golovanov added that the negotiations that took place during the second Russian-African summit were constructive, as priority areas of cooperation were identified between the two sides.

Djibouti is actively developing its space program with the aim of assessing environmental and climate risks, rational management of natural resources, and ensuring food security and regional development, according to the ambassador.

In November 2023, Djibouti launched its first satellite, “Djibouti 1-A”, with technical assistance from foreign partners. This satellite transmits the necessary telemetry information to local specialists in the field of climatology and meteorology.
