A document prepared at the initiative of former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and the Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA) revealed a proposal for a political solution aimed at ending the conflict and establishing a new Sudanese state.
The document, titled “Proposal for a Political Solution to End the War and Establish the Sudanese State,” outlined a range of proposed items, including a cessation of hostilities, a two-month truce, and the formation of a civilian transitional government and a unified army over a ten-year period.
The document consists of three sections, covering the principles and foundations of a comprehensive solution, cessation of hostilities (hostilities), humanitarian aid, as well as the political process.
The authors of the document said that it is based on ongoing resolution efforts, foremost of which is the “Jeddah Declaration” signed on May 11, 2023, the IGAD and African Union Road Map and the “Declaration of Principles” signed in Manama on January 20.
However, the document faced criticism from some political parties, including the Umma National and Communist Party and the Arab Socialist Ba’ath, which rejected the proposal as “a settlement project based on power-sharing between the military and the RSF for 10 years.”
The three parties demanded the need to form a civilian bloc to stop the war, in light of the failure of efforts to declare a truce on the occasion of the blessed month of Ramadan, despite the support of a draft resolution from the Security Council calling for this goal and was supported by 14 countries.
